Hint: times square doesn't count as a neighborhood.

Click here to view AngelaLee's profile. Greenwich Village is one of my favorite neighborhoods in New York City. The area has hundreds of small, hole-in-the-wall stores and restaurants that are easily gone unnoticed, but present many hidden surprises once you enter. There are tons of music shops (instruments, vinyls and all)! I strongly recommend stopping by Magnolia Bakery (401 Bleecker St)--though you might run into a crowd of long lines, the banana pudding and the red velvet cupcakes are to die for.

Click here to view lo*'s profile. I can get lost (and HAVE) in Chinatown and Little Italy. You can pretty much find anything and everything in Chinatown, especially if everything you want is a fake handbag or sunglasses. The restaurants are of course delicious. You can make a fun & cheap time out of people-watching & snacking on the awesome desserts you can find in both areas!

Click here to view Sophia's profile. My nieghborhood, East Village, is my favorite place to be, day or night. Great, cheap food abounds at all times of day, plus the nightlife is all at once alive with energy and yet gives off a relaxed vibe. Anywhere east of 3rd avenue to avenue C, and then from 14th st to Houston, you really can't go wrong with any of the cafe's, restaurants and bars, in addition to cultural hotspots like the Bowery Poetry clubs, Tompkins Square park, and various small theaters. In short, East Village is the place to be.

Click here to view Sophia's profile. Also, anyone who would consider Times Square a neighborhood, let alone an enjoyable place to spend time, needs to re-evaluate how they're exploring this city. haha

Click here to view karenrollsglobes's profile. Definitely East Village. A lot of great late-night bars and restaurants, with a lot of independent stores, tailors, vintage shops, and coffee houses in the area. All without being too hard on your wallet.
